Friends in Christ,

A couple times this fall we’ve opened worship by singing “Open the eyes of my heart, Lord; open the eyes of my heart.” It’s an older tune as contemporary worship goes, but it seems to age better than some. I think the song has a bit of staying power because it’s grown from a strong biblical footing (and it’s easy to sing).

“…having the eyes of your hearts enlightened…” (Ephesians 1:18)

The Apostle Paul includes that line in the prayer he’s been lifting up on behalf of Christians in Ephesus. He’s been praying that they might know the hope, riches, and power found in Christ. He prays that God would open the eyes of their heart to see and know these gifts.

This is my prayer for you today. This is my prayer for Calvary, and for Hope. This is my prayer for our partners at Good Shepherd and at Grace. This is my prayer for friends near and far who receive this message by mail and email. This is my prayer for us as the people of God. May our Lord open the eyes of your heart, that you might realize the hope of your calling in Christ, the riches of salvation won for you, and the power Christ exercises for your sake!

Here for you,

Matt Behrens, Pastor

PS – If you’re moved to respond in some way, consider lifting up this prayer for someone else. You can sing “Open the Eyes of My Heart” for the sake of a friend, or you could read Ephesians 1:15-23 and allow those words to guide you in prayer.
